Deep freezer repairs
The most important step in dealing with ice buildup is to identify the underlying cause. Check the seals and doors of your freezer for any holes, gaps, or cracks which could be allowing warm air and the resulting moisture to seep inside. Replace any worn-out gaskets around your freezer’s door, as this will significantly reduce the amount of warm air that can get through.
Regularly cleaning the interior and exterior of your freezer is an effective measure in preventing frost and ice buildup. Make sure you cover any open packages or containers to protect food from absorbing odors. Use a soft cloth and warm water solution with a mild detergent to wipe down all of the surfaces. Homeowners should also check for dust, lint and other debris on the condenser plate, condenser coils which can build up over time and impair performance.
Check your freezer’s temperature setting to make sure it’s not too cold. It should range from 0 to 5 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 18 to minus 15 C) for the best results. If your thermostat is set too low, the evaporator coils can be so cold that water vapor in the air forms ice crystals on them and freeze into a solid sheet of ice. Adjusting the temperature control dial or knob to a higher setting will solve this issue as well as help save energy.
