fix dishwasher
Is your dishwasher making a clicking noise but not cleaning the dishes? This guide will help you troubleshoot and diagnose the issue so you can get your dishwasher back to washing as it should. Learn how to identify the problem, what parts to check, and how to fix it.
If you’re hearing a clicking noise but your dishwasher is not washing, it could be an issue with the home’s circuit breakers and fuses. Check the wiring in your home to ensure that all connections are secure and that the circuit breaker or fuse for your dishwasher is properly powered. It may be necessary for more thorough troubleshooting to call in a professional electrician.
If all wiring and fuse connections appear functional, check the dishwasher hoses for leaks or blockages. Inspect the water inlet valve for any broken parts. Your water inlet valve is generally located underneath your sink, connected to a water supply hose from your wall. Clean or replace any damaged or clogged parts as needed.
Make sure to also clean the dishwasher filter and drainage system. This can be done by unlatching the lower dishrack, unscrewing the filter cap, and using a cotton swab to manually cleanse out any blockage. If the filter is blocked or clogged, it can prevent water from entering the dishwasher and cause it to click and not wash.
You’ll want to inspect and clean all of the components that housed around the filter. This includes examining the sprayer arms, impellers, gasket magnets and seals for any corrosion or residue buildup. The sprayer arms should be in a full 360 degree rotation without any obstruction, and it’s best to soak them overnight in hot soapy water for complete cleaning. Make sure to also inspect each impeller and seal for signs of wear or damage as well.
The detergent dispenser lid and cup assembly is usually responsible for making a clicking noise if it’s not being used correctly. Make sure the lid is securely snapped in place and the latch is firmly closed. If you find any signs of damage, replace the entire assembly to avoid further problems. If everything looks to be in order, inspect the inner soap compartments for signs of clogs or corrosion which may hinder the dispenser from delivering detergent properly when in use.
