Fridge leaking

Fridge leaks can be alarming, but they don't have to be. By testing a few components, you can find the source of the leak and repair it quickly and safely. Read on to learn what to do when your fridge is leaking water inside and how to prevent future issues.

The first step in addressing a fridge leak is to power down and unplug the appliance. This will not only prevent any further damage from occurring, it also makes it much easier to find the source of the leak since you won’t be dealing with water all over the place. Once you have located and fixed the issue, you can safely plug your fridge back in.

The next step is to locate and identify the source of the leak. This can be tricky since a refrigerator is so full of moving parts, hoses and tubing and it can be hard to pinpoint exactly where the water is coming from. The most common sources are from an overflowing ice maker, water filter connection, drain line or condensation pan. If you suspect any of these, inspect them carefully for signs of leakage or blockage.

Once you have identified the source of the leak, it’s time to clean up the water damage. If possible, try to remove any pooled water and dry off all surfaces with a soft cloth or towel. You may also want to place some fans in the area help accelerate drying time. Then move onto wiping down all wet surfaces with a mild cleaner and dry them again with a cloth or towel.
